"It was as if, at moments, we were perpetually coming into sight of subjects before which we must stop short, turning suddenly out of alleys that we perceived to be blind, closing with a little bang that made us look at each other--for, like all bangs, it was something louder than we had intended--the doors we had indiscreetly opened."

- Henry James
The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, is about the new Governess moves there to teach and shape her charges. Which means she is pretty much a nanny. She first meets Flora, who is very young and beautiful, and finds our she will need to go get Miles from school because he got expelled. he is very into cuasing trouble. mrs. Grose is the house keeper and is also the governess's companion. The governess is very concerned why Miles was kicked out of school and he wouldn't say why. There is a new governess becasue the old one died. The governess sees a strange man on top of the towers on the house and it freaks her out. She wouldn't sleep one night and she went to walk downstairs and saw the figure again. She figured out it was Peter Quint the former valet. Flora must have had some communication with him because she would always talk to him out of the window late at night. The governess also saw another ghost named Miss Jessel who was sitting at the bottom of the steps another night right after she saw Peter Quint again. It was all in Miles plan to get the governess to notice they were talking to these ghosts becuase he likes to cuase trouble. The governess tells Mrs. Grose about all of this but she does nothing. The governess avoids talking to the children about the ghosts becuase she doesn't want to start up anything. Miles constintly says he wants to go back to school and finally the governess and Mrs. Grose found out why he got kicked out. He supposidly said things to boys he liked. The governess writes to the childrens uncle about they're misbehaviors. And they find out Miles also stole letters.
I recommend this book because in the beginning it starts off kind of slow bus as you read it gets really interesting and you don't want to put it down. it goes into detail and really creates a picture in your head. I would definatly read this book again. It is kind of scary and you really just want to keep reading. i think there is another book becuase it ended really weird, like not complete. if you like a book that you have to think about the events going on while reading then you would like this book alot.
